Pasifika Children as Digital Producers
On Wednesday 30 May, Tino e Tasi Preschool launched their own Samoan language App, designed and produced by the young children themselves (with support from teachers and KIWA Digital). The project began with asking the children to draw a game they liked to play on an iPad, tablet or phone at home and, after lots of hard work, has resulted in a Samoan language word-puzzle game with the children’s voices singing and speaking in Samoan. Two Apps are now available on iTunes for free.
The App was funded through the Ministry for Pacific Peoples’ (MPP) Toloa Community Fund which aims to increase the number of Pacific people employed in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
